If you enjoy helping people overcome barriers and want to work in education, a Family Liaison Officer (FLO) could be an ideal job for you.

Many children and families face problems from time to time and the FLO is there to help. Our FLO is the first point of contact for parents/carers, staff and pupils when difficult issues arise. They work with all stakeholders of the school and outside agencies to enable our pupils to overcome barriers to learning and improve outcomes for all our pupils.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with parents and staff to promote good relationships between home and school, addressing common barriers such as attendance, punctuality, poor behaviour, school induction
  • Supporting vulnerable children to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Engaging with parents in preventative and early intervention activities to support learning
  • Promoting parent and community engagement including working with other agencies including school nursing, education welfare services, early help, outreach etc.
  • Mentoring pupils on an individual/group basis to develop their skills - including problem solving, understanding and being aware of other's emotions and feelings, addressing barriers to learning and raising aspirations

Hamstreet Primary Academy is a friendly, popular school situated in an attractive Kent village south of Ashford, close to the M20 with good rail links.

We are a large rural school (315 pupils) with a very attractive outdoor learning environment which is used extensively by staff and pupils. Our pupils are enthusiastic, friendly and polite; they enjoy challenging learning and inspirational teaching.

We converted to an Academy in November 2013 establishing ACE Learning with Furley Park Primary School. As such we are able to offer our staff and pupils innovative opportunities to develop excellent teaching and learning.
