The University of Portsmouth is a dynamic and ambitious institution with a track record of success. One of only four universities in the south east of England to achieve a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework, it is also ranked 21st in the 2020 Guardian League Table University Guide, and 113th in the Times Higher Young University World Rankings.

We seek to appoint part-time hourly paid lecturers/tutors to contribute to the delivery of our undergraduate and/or post graduate curriculum. The number of hours worked is flexible and by negotiation. The rate of pay will include remuneration for all work done in connection with teaching, preparation, setting and marking of work and examinations, related course administration and holiday pay accrued.

The School of Languages and Applied Linguistics is seeking to appoint hourly-paid lecturer to its bank of academic staff for teaching opportunities from January 2020 onwards.

The School belongs to a long-established global community comprising students, staff and partner organisations. This provides an inclusive multi-cultural environment where all are welcomed. Furthermore, the School is the University of Portsmouth’s hub for language learning, providing classes to students from across the University.

We are seeking a teacher to deliver Mandarin language modules our undergraduate degree programmes. Part-time lecturers are expected to follow and deliver the established curriculum and contribute to assessment activities including marking and moderation of assessment. Although a certain level of independence in planning and delivery of teaching and assessment is expected, post holders will need to communicate well with the full time staff and work effectively as part of a teaching team.

Applicants should be fluent in Mandarin, have a first degree and ideally possess FHEA or other teaching qualification. A knowledge of online/blended learning would be beneficial.

Selection for interview will be based on information on the application form relating to the person specification. CV’s on their own are not acceptable.

Please note that this job does not meet the minimum requirements set by UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) to qualify for an employer-sponsored visa and therefore unfortunately we are unable to consider applications from candidates who require sponsorship to work in the UK.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons and all appointments will be made on merit. As we are committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark, we would particularly welcome applications from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community who are currently under-represented at this level in this area.
