The Division of Language & Communication Science in the School of Health Sciences is the largest provider of speech and language therapy education in the UK. It has a strong core of experienced academics with experts in most domains of speech and language therapy, together with leaders from aligned academic subjects including phonetics, linguistics, psychology and audiology.

The Language & Communication Science Research Centre conducts world-leading research in several specialist areas including developmental and acquired language impairment; deafness; sign language and gesture; speech phonology and linguistics; social disadvantage and quality of life. It has a thriving aphasia research team, with funded projects investigating the benefits of peer support, technological applications in aphasia rehabilitation, the benefits of solution-focused therapy and narrative intervention. Its inclusive and supportive research culture aims to give all staff the opportunity to develop their research careers.


The Division is seeking to appoint two outstanding, qualified, Speech and Language Therapists to deliver individualised personal narrative therapy to participants with aphasia in the LUNA Research Project. The appointed candidates will provide individualised treatment following a treatment manual, maintain clinical records, and liaise with others involved in treatment

Person Specification

It is essential that the appointed candidates are HCPC registered speech and language therapists with experience of aphasia therapy, and will also have experience of supporting volunteers/ students in order to deliver LUNA in a joint-working model.
