Master's or PhD Degree in nutrition, public health, agricultural/health economics or related discipline
At least 7 years of relevant experience in advocacy, maternal and child health and nutrition or other
related work
Strong analytical skills - Experience in conducting policy research, nutrition assessment and evaluations
of policies related to agriculture, nutrition and health programs. Ability to undertake problem analyses
and organize diverse information in a systematic way while thinking creatively to propose approaches to
improve policies, program design, implementation and monitoring.
Demonstrated operational experience working with large multi-sectoral teams on nutrition issues.
Policy Dialogue Skills - possesses political judgment, diplomatic acumen, and negotiating skills.
Ability to write concisely and clearly in English with demonstrated ability to write effectively for a range of
audiences and pllrposes.
Knowledge of USAID and USG policies, programs, and initiatives, especially those related to health,
nutrition, and food security (e.g. USAID Forward, Feed the Future) would be an added advantage
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide technical support to institutions engaged in the development, implementation, monitoring and
evaluation of the nutrition policy. strategies and programs in Tanzania.
Support coordination and governance of nutrition policy activities particularly in implementation of the
National Multi-sectoral Nutrition Action Plan (MNAP) This activity is implemented in close collaboration
with Prime Ministers' Office (High-level Steering Committee on Nutrition-HLSCN), Ministry of Health,
Children Development, Gender, Elderly and and Community (MHOCDEGC), Tanzania Food and Nutrition
Center (TFNC), and other Development Partners.
Lead nutrition policy research and advocacy in support of Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition
(MCHN) activities in Tanzania which may include nutrition analysis, advocacy, and strengthening
government coordination of nutrition activities. This activity may entail preparing policy or strategy
documents, facilitating technical or training workshops, conducting assessments or program reviews and
writing reports of results, and managing partnership with organizations on the ground.
Support Institutional Capacity in implementation of Nutrition Policy particularlyTFNC and the Ministry of
Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (MALF) in strengthening the quality of nutrition activities supported
through Agricultural Sector Development Program (ASDP-2) and strengthening the integration of
nutrition interventions with health, food security and agriculture activities.
