About Company: The Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) was established on 1st July 2005, under the Universities Act (Chapter 346 of the Laws of Tanzania) to succeed the former Higher Education Accreditation Council which had been in operation since 1995. It is a body corporate mandated to recognize, approve, register and accredit Universities operating in Tanzania, and local or foreign University level programs being offered by registered higher education institutions. TCU also coordinates the proper functioning of all university institutions in Tanzania so as to foster a harmonized higher education system in the country. In order to ensure that such a harmonious higher education system does not compromise institutional peculiarities and autonomy, each University has the legal right to operate under its own charter

A potential candidate for this post should have the following background:
(i) Holder of a PhD degree from an accredited or recognized university;
(ii) A person who has attained the .status of Professor or Associate Professor from
an accredited university and with outstanding academic and administrative
experience and capability;
(iii) Good track record in higher education management and coordination;
(iv) Extensive knowledge and experience of higher education systems at a senior
management level of at least 15 years
(v) Good interpersonal relations.
As the CEO of the Commission the ES shall:
(a) Be responsible for the general direction, administration and supervision of the
Commission's staff and operations
(b) Ensure the implementation of the policies and procedures of the Commission
( c) Develop policies for approval by the Commission
( d) Build coalition and networks with other relevant bodies for purpose of providing
strategic advice in the development of higher education
( e) Serve as the Accounting Officer of the Commission
(f) Direct the operations of the Secretariat
(g) Serve as the key spokesperson of the Commission in all matters pertaining to its
