About Company: The Nile is one of the world’s longest rivers, traversing 6,695 kilometers as it journeys from its farthest source at the headwaters of the Kagera Basin to its delta in Egypt. The drainage Basin of the Nile covers about 3.2 million square kilometers spread between 35 degrees of latitude, This area is about one tenth of the land area of Africa and is shared by 11 countries namely Burundi, DR Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, The Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda.

The Expert, preferably a citizen of one of the three Rusu mo project countries, will be selected on the basis of the following criteria: A Master's degree level in Sociology, Development Studies, Social anthropology, Community Development, or a Master's degree level in Environmental, or Natural Resources Management, Environmental engineering or an equivalent environment-related discipline. A minimum of Ten (10) years Environmental and/or Social safeguards or Environmental and Social Risk Management experience. in Projects related to Infrastructure development A minimum of seven years (7) years recognized knowledge of and technical expertise in land acquisition, displacement, resettlement and compensation frameworks. Working experience and knowledge of international Development Partners contexts and especially Knowledge of the operational policies, procedures and practices of major bilateral and multilateral development agencies particularly World Bank, as well as International Best practices in environmental and social risk management mostly with respect to large infrastructure projects. Understanding of critical issues on sustainable development, international environment and development policy, climate change and social development and challenges of the Nile Equatorial Lakes region amongst others. Excellent writing, analytical, presentation, reporting and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in English language. Knowledge of other sub-regional languages like French, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi or Kiswahili will be an added advantage. Good computing skills, including knowledge of software packages for word processing, databases, and sp re1dshcets· Familiarity with modern communication systems (such as Internet, worldwide web, email, etc). Experience working in the NELSAP countries, particularly familiarity with at least two of the countries in the project region is essential. Willingness to travel within the project area, as work demands.
Planning, and coordination of the processes for the execution of the tasks related to the ESMP, RAP, LRP, LIMP and LADP implementation and offer guidance on applicable approaches; ii. Coordinate relevant committees (Environmental and Social Management Committee; Resettlement Committee; Rural Development Committee) in charge of overseeing the transboundary aspects of the implementation of the ESMP, RAP, LRP and LADP; iii. Ensure that management plans prepared by the contractors are compliant with the ESIA/ ESMP procedures and include at least the following: Social and Environment Action Plan (SEAP) Dam Safety Management Plan (DSMP) Traffic Management Plan (TMP); Integrated Waste Management Plan (IWMP); Labour Force Management Plan (LFMP); Environmental Mitigation and Monitoring Plan (EMMP); Health and Safety Management Plan (HSMP); Pollutant Spill Contingency Plan (IPSCP); Hazardous Materials Management Plan (HMMP); Emergency Response Plan (ERP); and other Site specific Plans iv. Ensure that management plans prepared by the contractors are compliant with the RAP/LADPprocedures and include at least the following: Social Management Plan In Migration Plan (Labor Influx Plan) HIV/AIDS Mitigation Plan Public Health Plan v. Oversee the implementation of the va rious management plans (as above) prepared by the consultant and contractors. vi. Prepare a comprehensive Environmental and Social Management Checklists required in the management plans for the Hydropower Plant
