The Associate Strategic Marketing Manager assists and supports the development and execution of product and platform level strategy. Working under the guidance of the Senior Director and Marketing Managers, the Associate Strategic Marketing Manager is responsible for planning and execution of assigned projects and programs. These will include efforts to segment the market, conduct competitive and environmental analyses, establish product positioning and commercialization strategies for target segments. Identifies and assesses new market and product opportunities.

Recommends, conducts and analyzes primary and secondary research to provide data and analysis of market segments relevant to product life cycles and company plans and activities, including strategic planning and marketing planning cycles. Tracks global market trends, competitive activities, and market share related to the Sofia portfolio. Supports assigned core teams, phase reviews, and portfolio planning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



Assists in developing winning strategies for target markets that lead to strong market share and profitability.

Conducts primary and secondary research in support of market sizing, segmentation, targeting, positioning:

  • Waived and non-waived segments
  • POL, Hospital, ER, Urgent Care, Micro/Virology and POC segments
  • Menu needs
  • Pricing
  • Clinical unmet needs
  • Product features and preferences
  • Competitive dynamics
  • Identifying valuable gaps in product markets, when exploited provide Quidel with superior share of market and profitability

Works closely with the Sr. Director and Managers to design and deliver the value proposition:
  • Collects voice-of-the-customer to support the development of design requirements. Confirm design requirement inputs related to test performance, turn-around-time and other competitive features with the intent of exploiting valuable gaps in product offerings
  • As products enter clinical trials, and working under the direction of the Sr. Director and Managers, support the development the go-to-market plan.
  • Upon successful completion of clinical trials, work with tactical marketing colleagues to commercialize the product. Develop sales training materials, targeting lists, positioning, messaging, sales collateral

Field Travel and Support:
  • Meet with customers in target and potential segments to assess satisfaction with products and programs and to identify opportunities
  • Monitor utilization and effectiveness of sales programs and tools to identify needs for new materials, added training etc.
  • Participate in providing sales training at national and regional meetings; trade show participation

Supports strategic and portfolio planning activities for the company
  • Provides voice of customer and US commercial team input to portfolio planning process, product design and other strategic initiative plans
  • Maintains and updates platform opportunity register

Analyzes and communicates market trends, competitive activities and market share for the company’s IVD product portfolio
Requirements:
Education/Experience
  • BS or BA degree required, MBA preferred
  • Life sciences background helpful
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in business and/or marketing experience.

Knowledge/Skills
  • Analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate to diverse audiences. Strong interpersonal skills, both within the organization and outside of the corporate environment
  • Understanding of market research methods and when and how to execute primary and secondary market research, including VOC (voice of customer)
  • Understanding of financial analysis (costing, gross and operating margin calculation, ROI, etc.)
  • Ability to think strategically and bring a high level of creativity to the organization
  • Flexibility in adapting to a rapidly changing environment to work with others in a professional and effective way
  • Personal ethics and integrity that embodies best practices and supports highest corporate values.
